Newland Hall is located between Wey Hall and Trivette Hall and is designed for four students in a suite style arrangement. Each suite contains two bedrooms that accommodate two students each. The two rooms share a bathroom. Newland hall is exclusively available to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. This hall was the first residence hall for men, built in 1908. It was named for the man who introduced the bill in the legislature to create Appalachian, the Honorable Will C. Newland of Lenoir. It was a handsome and somewhat ornate frame building and stood where the modern Newland Hall is located. Its wide front porch, its dormers and gables, its turret on the front roof and its elevated position made it a commanding residence hall. |
